A History of Nonviolence

The Swarthmore College Peace Collection houses a uniquely comprehensive archive of primary source materials related to U.S. and international peace initiatives from the early 19th century to present. Several DGs in the Collection pertain specifically to the American-Soviet peace walks, and other topics related to nonviolent action for peace and nuclear disarmament.

LA Times Coverage of the ’87 Walk

The American-Soviet Peace Walk from Leningrad to Moscow, USSR, took place from June 15 to July 8, 1987. One of the most complete accounts of the Walk by the U.S. news media was provided by the Los Angeles Times. L.A. Times staff writer Kathleen Hendrix covered the Walk in a series of 10 full-length articles.
